Creative projections

One of my most memorable Las Vegas experiences was going to see Crazy Horse at the MGM Grand (on a side note, despite its lack of authenticity, I actually found the Vegas show to beat Paris' hands down; such is the production value of Vegas shows). As the curtains raised and a rank-and-file lineup of perfect topless bodies stood marching on the spot in little but some leather accessories, officer's caps and boots, I was immediately struck by one thing: the lighting. The nudity of a cabaret show, a strip show, was not only played down it was heightened in sensuality by a changing series of light projections across the stage. In viewing the latest shoot by Timmothy Lee I'm reminded of that effect. Like the performers' bodies which were kissed by colourful shadows, so too is model Afroditi's and the effect is similarly simple-yet-striking.

I wouldn't at all venture to say that Lee's effect was copied from a Vegas stage, rather that it results in the same softening, intriguing effect that I've personally admired before. Timmothy Lee is someone we've come to know for his creativity in shoots, always thinking outside the box from the darkly 3-dimensional to the typographic to the hand drawn. And this latest shoot is yet another to take lack of clothing into a fashion context in the most beautiful, most creative of ways.
