The President of John Galliano?s Perfume Line Compares John Galliano to Kate Moss

Although John Galliano was fired from his eponymous label six weeks after his dismissal from Dior, the brand is still grappling with the after-effects of the scandal. The company reported that their fragrance sales have declined since Galliano's alleged anti-Semitic tirade this past February, especially in March when many retailers pulled products off shelves, particularly in the U.S. and the U.K. They've therefore delayed the U.S. launch of Galliano's latest fragrance, Parlez-Moi d’Amour, which was released in the Middle East and Europe last October and scheduled to roll out Stateside this spring.

“We held off launching in the U.S. because of the problems, and are reviewing our strategy for that market,” Perfume Holding vice president of creation and marketing development Brigitte Wormser revealed, without giving further details ... In Israel, the brand was strongly affected by Galliano’s alleged anti-Semitic outbursts, she commented, and certain German and British retailers were reticent about stocking the fragrance. In France and Italy, however, the impact has been minimal.

Wormser went on to make optimistic — albeit rather toneless — predictions that the Galliano scandal will soon be forgotten and the brand will bounce back.

“Everyone knows John was sick at the time,” Wormser said. She made a comparison with supermodel Kate Moss’ turbulent period: “We have all forgotten now that she messed up ... There are other brands whose namesake designer is no longer present, and who sell perfectly well. Young people today do not remember Paco Rabanne, but the brand is still successful.”

So confident is she in the brand's resilience that Perfume Holding will proceed with the launch of an eau de parfum version of Parlez-Moi d’Amour in Europe and the Middle East in October.
