ManRepeller: Why Wear a Hat When You Can Wear a Cat?

Animal prints, faces, and fur have played a large role in this season’s runway shows. I commend the designers for embracing what seems to be a vital-to-survive-come-next-fall trend, all in their own unique ways: gorilla arms at Peter Som, animal faces — not prints — at Jill Stuart, and perhaps the most man-repelling of this bunch: Anna Sui’s animal-head jacket.

The practicality brought forward is obvious: holy warmth in a playful way. But do take a moment to ponder the thoughts running through your male counterpart’s head. Why wear a cat’s face attached to what looks like a curly sweater when you can wear a proper hat and more discreet piece of outerwear while maintaining that exact same element of holy warmth?

My rebuttal to this male counterpart reads like this: But why wear your own face when you can wear a cat’s face?

With only a few shows left before the end of New York Fashion Week, it’s time to bid a proper farewell. Man repelling or not, wherever you go, do remember that in the look book of our lives, bolder is always better.
